hel65 Eric's powerful thought provoking lyrics on the album deserves a wider audience. His voice on To the Rock sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it. And the way he gives the Thatcherite years a kicking on Ghosts is superb. That said, Miami is also very emotive and powerful. The album is just fabulous. Favorite track: Ghosts (Faulkner) Produced by Phil Cunningham.

lisaswankmay A Long Way from Miami is a very touching song. Growing up in a country that never went through the turmoil that others endured, this was an eye opener. I watch the documentary on YouTube after I listened to Eric's song. I cried as I watched it and prayed for the murdered souls as well as the survivors. Eric you music touches my heart in a way you'll never know. Thank you for sharing your life with all of us.

Frontline 03:09
FRONTLINE I am a Soldier Man I signed The Pledge Off to the front line we go I am a Philistine I have the right Off to the trenches we go Will we see another rising sun above our shallow graves? Cover me with roses: burn me on a funeral pyre Do we stand on hallowed ground our pitied souls will they be saved? There must be a joker in the pack I am a Farmer Man I dig the fields Off to the front line we go I am a Poet Man I fight with words Off to the trenches we go There must be an undertaker: dress us for our maker high Cover me with roses: throw my ashes to the wind Welcome to this stupid war: what is it we are fighting for? There must be a joker in the pack I am a Fisher Man I cast my nets Off to the front line we go I am a Thespian: To be or not to be Off to the trenches we go Where we all fall down: we all go down together We all fall down: We all fall down together I’ve been to Vietnam with Uncle Sam Off to the front line we go I’ve done Jerusalem I’ve got the shirt Off to the trenches we go Will we see another rising sun above our shallow graves? Cover me with roses: burn me on a funeral pyre Do we stand on hallowed ground our pitied souls will they be saved? There must be a joker in the pack I am Jesus Christ you’ve read the book Off to the front line we go I am The Substitute who scored to win the cup Off to the trenches we go Here we go: here we go Off to the frontline we go Here we go: here we go Off to the trenches we go Where we all fall down © Faulkner

Giving It All To Charity Down on the corner, the doorway is warmer Sits a lonely soul She’s chilled to the bone; As there’s nowhere called home, She can’t get any dole. So come wind, rain or shine, she’s shivering time Waiting for now or never. So I’m giving it all to charity I’m giving it all away today Giving it all to charity Giving it all away today Out on the lash, with his hand out for cash An old soldier begs He fought in a war, then a landmine he bought, Man, he lost both his legs. He made it home from Iraq, fell through the cracks, Where is his Queen and Country? So I’m giving it all to charity I’m giving it all away today I’m giving it all to charity Giving it all away today Turning a trick, just to buy his next fix Another soul goes by He tried the rehab, the withdrawals were bad, Bleeding out, crucified Strung out, hung out to dry, He’s too low to fly So he can’t see no future So I’m giving it all to charity I’m giving it all away today I’m giving it all to charity Giving it all away today… © Faulkner

Take No More 04:48
Take No More They take our money and they build their bombs They chop our trees till forest’s gone They plant our crops with a demon seed Soon your home cooking will make you bleed If you ain’t gonna take no more Sing… “We ain’t gonna take no more” Mr President’s got a Twitter feed Atomic radioactive Tweets Working cheap for the Company No rights in gig economies If you ain’t gonna take no more Sing… “We ain’t gonna take no more” Walk the line for the NHS March for Life no second best Raise your voices hand in hand Welcome to the Freedom Band If you ain’t gonna take no more Sing… “We ain’t gonna take no more” They fill our lungs with their CO2 I’m in a sweat got the greenhouse blues Building walls is their racist cure Whilst the rich get rich, the poor get poor If you ain’t gonna take no more Sing… “We ain’t gonna take no more” © Faulkner 2018

Long Way From Miami There had always been The Troubles, through it all the bands played on The Castle Ballroom, Banbridge heard The Miami Showband’s last song There had always been the checkpoints, The Queen’s Army on the watch When The UDR came calling, you’d smile sweetly resist the craic. Did they die for Queen and Country? Did they die for a Papal Kiss? Lined up by the roadside, Christ how did it all come to this? It was a long way from Miami – Down the Dublin road Many a band travelled that way – Some never came back The UVF were planning to plant a bomb in the old gig van For an Ulster man to discover to show The Miamis were IRA men But the bomb it went off too early, to their maker two UVF went In the carnage that was to follow – three Miamis were heaven sent It was a long way from Miami – Down the Dublin road Many a band travelled that way – Some never came back Two survived to tell the story – such a terrible thing to bear To see your band mates maimed and slaughtered in the cold, blood-red, Newry air So when you’re driving on the bypass say a prayer for the boys in the band You’ll probably hear them singing “They used to call us... The Miami Showband” It was a long way from Miami – Down the Dublin road Many a band travelled that way – Some never came back Many a band travelled that way – Some never came back Words & Music Faulkner © Faulkner

To The Rock (Fort Perch) We have ploughed o’er the waves for a cran: our meagre pay O’er The Celtic Sea to Atlantic gales We have chanced our lives as we worked our endless shift Then the cry goes out: To the wind heave on boys To the wind let her go Heave on home To The Rock: To The Rock Where The Mersey meets the sea To The Rock where me Judy waits for me As we pray every wave we will know we’re home and safe When we sight Fort Perch Rock starboard ho Starboard ho With our earned dignity laid across the endless sea O’er this watery grave with our faith in God For our precious catch we have sailed our luck Then the cry goes out: To the wind heave on boys To the wind let her go Heave on home To The Rock: To The Rock Where The Mersey meets the sea To The Rock where me Judy waits for me As we pray every wave we will know we’re home and safe When we sight Fort Perch Rock starboard ho Starboard ho Then the cry goes out: To the wind heave on boys To the wind let her go Heave on home To The Rock: To The Rock Where The Mersey meets the sea To The Rock where me Judy waits for me As we pray every wave we will know we’re home and safe When we sight Fort Perch Rock starboard ho To The Rock: To The Rock Where The Mersey meets the sea To The Rock where me Judy waits for me As we pray every wave we will know we’re home and safe When we sight Fort Perch Rock starboard ho Starboard ho © Eric Faulkner

Born To Be Free I swear I heard a voice, the merest whisper And I know you heard it too It was carried on the wind, from shore to shore From mountain high, to me and you. “To be free, born to be free,” it said, “To be free, we are all born to be free.” From the womb, suckled with a mother’s love To the grave, we are all born to be free. As the bankers trade their shares in poverty, The politicians trade debate; To the palace of the despot, the blood money Fuels the pain, fuels the hate. “To be free, born to be free,” it said, “To be free, we are all born to be free.” From the womb, suckled with a mother’s love To the grave, we are all born to be free. Freedom’s not a word on dollar bills, So freedom it can wait. Freedom’s not a word on dollar bills, So freedom it can wait. “To be free, born to be free,” it said, “To be free, we are all born to be free.” From the womb, suckled with a mother’s love To the grave, we are all born to be free. To be free, we are all born to be free. To the grave, we are all born to be free. © Faulkner 2018

GHOSTS They’ve called in the suits from Bloomsbury Way To sort out the mess of the Thatcherite days When the profit’s God, divided we will fall It’s dead on The Clyde, it’s quiet on The Tyne The whole dock’s dry no overtime We’ve got our cards, they’ve sent us home today So tell me, who can build? Who can sail? Who can launch a ship with no name? The ghosts of our ships sailing on the tide Do they think they can better the toil and the sweat? Of my faither, his brothers and all the rest They may as well tear the whole thing down But you all bought the lie and you all missed the catch But my weans want this and my weans want that I’ll send the bill down to Dulwich Town So tell me, who can build? Who can sail? Who can launch a ship with no name? The ghosts of our ships sailing on the tide So if I meet the suits from Bloomsbury way Tell you what they’ll officially receive from me They’ll get my boot right up their poverty So tell me, who can build? Who can sail? Who can launch a ship with no name? The ghosts of our ships sailing on the tide The ghosts of our ships sailing on the tide The ghosts of our ships sailing on the tide © Eric Faulkner
